The first is that our weakness in this statement does not mean we are a coward or not manly enough, but it means that we are able to humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God.
In this world, people considered weakness as a form of negative connotation, but to God, it means that we are yielding to God's mighty power and we want His power to work mightily in our lives. For example, the world always say that men cannot handle asking for direction because it takes away from their pride. Men believe if they ask for directions in front of their wives or even the ladies they are dating, it will shame their manhood. It is a sign of weakness in their eyes, but it takes a stronger person to concede and humble themselves to ask directions and not worry about what others may think. This takes a stronger man to accept help than a man that cannot accept help. Now how does this play in our Christian walk? A person who cannot humble themselves to ask God for help will be driving around trying to find their destination and taking a longer route to get there whereas a person who humbles himself and allow God to direct him will find his destination much faster and with less headaches.
The second meaning of the statement above is that God's strength becomes stronger in our lives when we humble ourselves towards God. The reason why God's strength becomes stronger is because we are opening our heart for God to move in our lives. The strength of God's power in our lives is determined by how much we want Him to move and handle our lives. It is like God's power is on a spectrum. His power of blessings and protection in our lives are weak when we put ourselves in the pilot seat, but his blessings and protection are strong when we put God in the pilot of our lives. God can be a major influence in our lives if we only allow Him full access. If we decide to not humble ourselves in our weaknesses, then we tie God's hand from being a strong advocator. If we become humble in our weaknesses, then we activate God's full strength to work in our lives. Do not allow the pressure to conform to this world affect your interaction with our Lord. If your life seems to be in turbulent winds, ask yourself this question and start changing today. The question is, "How much of God is in my life right now?"
I understand that it is hard to relinquish control in your life. It seems so unnatural, but God is saying to have faith in Him. For example, when my husband is in the driver's seat and I am in the passenger seat, I have a hard time relaxing because I like being in the driver's seat and controlling where we go. When we are in the car, I would tell my husband to drive in certain lanes or I will be frustrated because he's doing something completely different from the way I normally drive. I am more of a passive driver while my husband is more of an aggressive driver. What I mean is that I will be in the lane that I need to be in to reach my exit even if it means traffic is backed up and my exit is ten miles away, whereas my husband would be in the fast lane and avoiding all the traffic and maneuver through the traffic to get to the exit. He will not sit in traffic if he does not have to. What this teaches me is that I need to let go and allow my husband to drive and trust that he has it in hand. It is the same way that God is asking us to do. He is saying to have faith in Him that His strength will become stronger when we relinquish our lives in His hand. So, humble yourself and know that humbling is breaking down prideful behavior and destroying the devil's stumbling block in our lives.
